Back in October 2009, IBM released the best version of the 8.5.x code stream to an eager customer base, many companies have upgraded and are now benefitting from its green capabilities, with features that can help your company reduce energy consumption and resource usage. Apart from a user experience that is vastly superior to previous versions, Version 8.5.x delivers features that can really help your business reduce cost and increase efficiency:
- Save disk space with compression disk space saving capabilities. Typical disk space savings range from 40% to 60% (your results will vary), which may help your business reduce energy consumption via physical disks, I/O, and reduce costs associated with managing data.
- Reduce disk I/O and space with the Domino Attachment and Object Storage (DAOS), this saves duplicate attachments on to the server file system.
- ID management features via the new ID Vault.
- Performance enhancement enabling more users to work faster on less server resources
- Enhanced Domino Configuration Tuner.
- Increase scalability and potential performance improvements through I/O and CPU reduction for commonly used Lotus Domino server tasks such as transaction logging.
- Improve quality of service through mail routing optimisation to improve performance and speed of delivery.
The 8.5.1 code stream is now up to fixpack 5 and now 8.5.2 is available that adds improved e-mail fidelity when sending via the internet, Notes API's in to the ID Vault for programmatic capabilities and improved diagnostic probes for better reporting.
The next major release, 8.5.3, has gone to stage one of six and is estimated to ship Q2 2011.
